What is a Macroporous Resin?
Macroporous resin is a kind of polymer adsorbent resin with macroporous structure, which has good macroporous mesh structure and large specific surface area. This type of resin is a new type of organic polymer adsorbent developed in the 1960s, and is now widely used in the fields of environmental protection, food and medicine.
The characteristics of macroporous resins include:
Large pore structure: the pore size of macroporous resins is generally above 10nm, and this large pore structure makes the resin have high porosity and surface area, which is able to adsorb organic polymer compounds and elute them down during regeneration.
Good stability: the macroporous resin has good abrasion strength and resistance to oxidation and organic contamination, and is suitable for separation, purification and other operations.
Renewable and reusable: The macroporous resin has good stability and can be regenerated and reused to save cost. Its adsorption effect is good, and the analyte can be reused after analysis.
Simple process: the adsorption technology of macroporous resin is characterized by simple equipment, convenient operation, short production cycle, low energy consumption and cost, and easy regeneration, can be used repeatedly, and can be operated under the condition of 80℃ at the highest.
In the preparation of macroporous resins, ion exchange resins are prepared by adding porogenic agents (such as solvents, non-solvents, salts, or soluble polymers), such as the use of divinylbenzene, styrene, and the inert filler calcium carbonate are polymerized to make resins, and a macroporous structure can be formed by extracting the filler. This resin has a high porosity and a large pore size in the dry state, so it is called a macroporous adsorption resin
