A mixed bed resin is a mixture of two types of ion exchange resins: cation exchange resin and anion exchange resin. These resins are small, bead-like particles that are designed to remove dissolved ions (charged particles) from water.

 

Cation exchange resin attracts and removes positively charged ions, such as calcium, magnesium, and iron, from the water. Anion exchange resin attracts and removes negatively charged ions, such as chloride, sulfate, and nitrate. When cation and anion exchange resins are mixed together, they can remove almost all of the dissolved ions from the water, producing very pure, demineralized water.

Mixed bed resins are used in a variety of applications, including:

  • Water purification: Mixed bed resins are used in the final stage of many water purification systems, such as reverse osmosis systems, to produce ultra-pure water for drinking, electronics manufacturing, and other industrial applications.
